Description:

Abby and Luke chat online. They’ve never met. But they are going to. Soon.

Abby is starting high school—it should be exciting, so why doesn’t she care? Everyone tells her to “make an effort,” but why can’t she just be herself? Abby quickly feels like she’s losing a grip on her once-happy life. The only thing she cares about anymore is talking to Luke, a guy she met online, who understands. It feels dangerous and yet good to chat with Luke—he is her secret, and she’s his. Then Luke asks her to meet him, and she does. But Luke isn’t who he says he is. When Abby goes missing, everyone is left to put together the pieces. If they don’t, they’ll never see Abby again.

This Blonde’s Review:

As the internet became a bigger part of our lives, children and teens are told to be careful. Not to give out their information, not to meet strangers they met online, the be safe. For many people it would have been obvious not to do what Abby did. This story gives you a look at what could make a girl like Abby run off with a stranger.

Abby is one of the good girls. No one sees her as a problem child, since she isn’t. Yet she feels alone and turns to an online site she usually talks to her best friend on. While on there she meets a guy who seems to understand her better than her best friend does. This guy says all the right things at all the right times, he makes her want to please him.

When something happens that makes her want to disappear Luke uses that the get her to go with him. What happens after Abby goes to see Luke isn’t what she ever imagined would happen. As everyone tries to put the pieces together some people will try to understand and others will judge. Which is exactly how it would work in real life.

I love that the author showed us how this can really happen. It’s not just kids who have a bad home life and want to run away to anything. It’s not just stupid girls who fall for any guy. It’s not so hard to understand when you read Abby’s story. It shows that Yes, there will be people who judge and won’t understand. But there will also be people who will love her and do whatever they can to help get her home save.

I really enjoyed this book. It is more acceptable now to meet people online and in some ways I think a book like this should be read by every teenager. Knowing it’s more acceptable doesn’t mean it won’t lead to things they don’t want to have happen. It can also help them to see what the victim could have been going through that would lead him or her to go. I really felt for Abby, and I think the author wrote a great ending for Abby’s story.

If this book sounds interesting to you then you should definitely give it a read. You won’t regret it.
