This Blonde’s Review:
Mara and Jordan had a whirlwind romance when they were young and they both fell in love quickly. Circumstances kept them apart. Jordan was a young man ready to head off on his first mission for the Inferno Club. Mara was a flighty girl looking for a way out of her unhappy home and ready to marry the first man who offered. Jordan was determined to be happy and not turn into one of the cynical bitter men he saw around him. Mara believed Jordan would come back for her. When Jordan was unable to write to her Mara believed he had been playing her false and quickly married another. Her disastrous marriage left both of them hurting and believing they must not have had the love the thought.
Several years later Jordan is back. Mara is a widow with a young son she adores. Jordan is the cynical spy he never wanted to be and believes the rumors he hears about Mara’s relationship with the prince. Duty requires him to talk to her again he soon finds that he was wrong about everything. As they get to know each other again they are quick to regain the love they had. Except this time Jordan isn’t getting ready to leave for a mission, he is in the middle of one. Trying to keep Mara from becoming further embroiled in the mess around him and prevent her from unintentionally ruining his plans again puts a gap between the two. When Mara learns the truth she has to decide if she believes in his love or his lies and what she wants from her life.
I really enjoyed this one. I loved Jordan’s character and what a solid man he is. Mara has a strength to be envied as well since she was burned so badly before but is willing to love again. Watching these two fall in love so quickly then hoping that the lies won’t come between them was an enjoyable experience.
