Lady Justine is willing to trade her good name, her reputation and her place in London’s gossip-hungry ton to secure her father’s release from prison. But when the notorious Duke of Bradford counters her offer with a proposal of marriage, the stakes grow higher still. For while the smoldering lord is famous for his conquests, the man is oblivious to both her devotion and her charms. And Justine is soon afraid she has wagered all for naught…

This Blonde’s Review:
Many of us would do anything for family. Justine is the same, willing to do anything she has to in order to see her father released from prison for having an unpopular opinion about homosexuality. She approaches Radcliff, a friend of her father’s, with the offer to be his mistress if he’ll assist her with her father’s release. She’s surprised when he offers her marriage then refuses to see her for weeks.

Radcliff has a problem we don’t see mentioned in romance novels. He is a sex addict. He has secluded himself in an attempt to get his urges under control but doesn’t want to resist Justine. He hopes to gain control of his urges so he won’t attack Justine when he’s given permission to have her. He knows Justine to be an unusual woman thanks to her naturalist father. He also knows she’s a strong woman who could potentially help him get past his weaknesses.

I loved the way the author worked these two issues into her story and makes it work. The way she wrote it made it easy to think that sexual addictions aren’t something from the current times, only that in the past it may have been considered acceptable until it crossed a certain line. I enjoyed Justine, no-nonsense characters who look at life logically or scientifically instead of following the social norms or the day are always favorites of mine, so I love the way Justine approaches her life. She’s clearly the perfect match for a man whose animal urges can get the best of him.

Watching Justine and Radcliff learn to trust each other and themselves was wonderful and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. Thankfully I already have a copy so expect a review of book two soon!

If you enjoy unconventional ladies who help their heros get past seemingly overwhelming personal issues you’ll enjoy the first in the Scandal series from Delilah Marvelle.
