The Oracle Rebounds
By Allison van Diepen
The Oracle of Dating Book 2
As the “oracle of dating,” Kayla is supposed to have all the answers about love and relationships. She’s supposed to have the perfect relationship. But now that Jared is “taking a step back,” Kayla feels like a total fraud.
So the expert on dating starts taking her own rebound advice—and some from her friends—and stops moping around. Yeah, there are other possibilities out there—including the beyond-cute French foreign exchange student she’s showing around town. But when controversy erupts about the Oracle’s advice, Kayla is sent reeling once again. Will anything work out for her this year? Yet when her friends start seriously needing the Oracle, Kayla begins to focus on what really matters: Viv, Sharese, Amy and Ryan, her trueblue buds. And suddenly, everything starts making sense again.
This Blonde’s Review:
This is the second book in Allison van Diepen’s Oracle of Dating series. I reviewed The Oracle of Dating as well if you’d like to check out my review. This followup was not a disappointment.
We fell in love with Kayla and Jared in The Oracle of Dating and were so happy for them to be such a great couple. The Oracle Rebounds starts off with Jared breaking up with Kayla. Of course this is a huge shock (unless you read the description) and we need are not happy. We can’t hate Jared because we already loved him from the first book, but we can be hoping they get back together.
Kayla struggles with her feelings following the breakup, but in true Oracle fashion she decides to use this as a way to help her readers. She continues to give such great advice that this book is part great story and part dating advice. Realizing she had let her website fall in her list of priorities while she was with Jared, Kayla decides it’s time to fix that. She starts to blog more regularly again, and she decides to try guest blogging. At first it seems like a wonderful idea until she is attacked by a blogger she didn’t do as much research on as she should have. While she gets all the traffic she could want, the attention is Not the positive attention she had hoped for.
Life isn’t all bad for Kayla. When he mother hosts a French foreign exchange student it’s like she has been provided a built in rebound boy. I won’t spoil any more about what happens with the boy, or how Jared responds to it all. But I think it was rather perfect. I also love how we get to see more of Tracy, Kayla’s sister we see a lot of in the last book, and the way that Tracy gets to give Kayla advice this time.
I really enjoyed this book. Just as I did with The Oracle of Dating, this was a book I picked up and didn’t set down until it was done. I loved the way things have turned out for Tracy and Kayla so far and would be happy to end here. BUT I love Kayla and her friends, and would love to see her friends issues resolved (with Kayla’s help of course) in a third book. Like Kayla says, “Senior year promises to be full of surprises…” We’ll just have to wait and see.
This was a light easy read, and was no problem for me to finish in one sitting at 208 pages. If you enjoyed reading the first book you will love the second as well and I encourage you to get a copy.
