One Night That Changes Everything
By Lauren Barnholdt
Available July 2010
Eliza is in a full-blown panic. Her notebook has been stolen—the one that lists everything she wants but is afraid to go after. And the absolute worst person in the world has it: her ex-boyfriend, Cooper. Like it’s not enough Cooper was lying to Eliza for their entire relationship, now he and his friends are blackmailing her. They’re giving her just one night to complete the most humiliating tasks on her list or they’ll post her secrets online—including the ones that aren’t just about her. Eliza’s sure of only one thing: she isn’t going down without a fight. Cooper may have what’s left of her dignity, but she’s not the only one with something to hide …
This Blonde’s Review:
Eliza is caught. She either allows a group she despises to control her night and hope they really return her notebook, or she can fight back. Eliza decides to follow their instructions rather than face her notebook being made public. Worst of all, her ex Cooper won’t leave her alone while she does it. Cooper keeps her confused by saying and doing things that contradict each other. So on top of facing her fears she has to attempt to decode Cooper.
I thought this was a really cute book. She allowed people to force her into things she didn’t want to do, but in doing these things she learned there was nothing to fear. She was forced to reveal secret that could destroy her close friendship with her older sister. She also has to decide how long she will continue to follow orders, or what she is going to do to stop it. I liked Cooper, he did some crappy things apparently, but still seems to care about Eliza. I wasn’t as big of a fan of Eliza’s friends (who all have a surprising lack of parents on the scene, even after an arrest). They all have their own little issues going on, as life usually does. Instead of staying with Eliza as they declare they will, they bail on her at the worst times. Eliza is able to see how one night really can change Everything.
If you like seeing how one girl’s world can change by being forced into trying new things, then this could be a great read for you.
